Hotel and history

Mallorca's finest boutique hotel - The Son Net Estate dates to 1672, with its original well and patio, set against the rugged Serra de Tramuntana Mountains (now declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site). The luxury hotel Son Net was opened in 1998.

Gran Hotel Son Net is an exquisite luxury Mallorcan Estate, a breathtaking historical mansion dating back to the 17th century, which has been lovingly restored into an elegant sanctuary amid the rugged Serra de Tramuntana Mountains (now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site) - a mere 20 minutes from Palma- a boutique hotel offering the essence of Mallorcan classicism; rooms are spacious and full of light with glorious vistas.

The building materials include stone, wood, and traditional tiles. The traditional stucco walls give the sensation of an authentic Mallorcan home and the traditional “Tela de Lenguas” fabric, also made on the island, characterise the public spaces.

Art is one of the main features of the hotel, displaying a prominent collection of modern paintings and original works from artists such as Marc Chagall, Frank Stella, David Hockney and others.

Legend has it...

…that in the 17th century a valiant pirate turned knight was rewarded by his king with a prestigious estate that extended from the mountains just outside of Palma to the other side of the island on Mallorca’s North Coast. The knight, Don Francisco de Net, searched for the finest location within his estate upon which to build his family mansion. He chose a site on the crest of a hill overlooking the tranquil village of Puigpunyent. The village located in a hidden valley surrounded by majestic mountains thrived while serving the large Net estate.

Three centuries later, the old family mansion has been restored and became the Gran Hotel Son Net. The estate has been restored to its original splendor, maintaining many of its original 17th Century features. During its refurbishment, great care was taken to maintain the character of the building, preserving its natural stone flagged floors and ancient wooden beams. These rustic features combine with the classic elegance of its interior design throughout the public areas and guestrooms. Discover a unique hotel with a remarkable history.
